Roy Keane has lauded praise on Chelsea star Mason Mount and brushes off criticism the England star gets on social media.

The 21-year-old midfielder has impressed for the Blues ever since he broke into the team last season.

And former Manchester United captain Roy Keane told Sky Sports before Chelsea's clash with Tottenham, that he is a big fan of the England international.

He said: This boy (Mount) I really like him, he’s got so much going for him. He always steps to the next level.

'He scores goals, assists see a pass, I like everything about him. Apparently there’s critics on social media, I don’t follow social media thank god but I really like the look of this kid.'

Mount has previously been the subject of criticism by fans of the England national team who believe Gareth Southgate was denying Jack Grealish more minutes by selecting the Chelsea midfielder.

This changed in the recent line of England internationals with the England manager starting both Mount and Grealish in games against Republic of Ireland, Belgium and Iceland.

Mount's Chelsea manager Frank Lampard, who also managed Mount during his one year at Derby County two seasons ago, has also previously spoken about the matter.

After Chelsea's 2-1 victory over Rennes in the Champions League, Lampard praised Mount after he produced a superb assist for their opening goal which was finished by Callum Hudson-Odoi.

He said: 'I have a good relationship with Mason. Not as close as some people think and he knows that I'm there if he wants any guidance.

'With Mason there's been talk and it's got to go away. I'm lucky to know him well at Derby in his breakthrough season in the Championship and he's been outstanding with the way he works off the ball.

'I'm not going to undermine that and he has all the attributes to arrive high up the pitch and score more goals and make more assists.'

Lampard demanded that fans leave Mount to continue performing well at this level but also reminded the midfielder about the intense competition for places in the Chelsea squad.

'It's the modern world with social media and for me the way Mason plays he knows how good he is. We all have opinions. Let's talk about how good Mason is and let's let him get on with it.

'The assist like he made tonight was top-class. I've got good options in midfield and you see Kai Havertz doing well despite being in isolation and we have to keep competition high in that area.'
