Rummenigge on European Super League: If I had to decide today, I would decline

Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has admitted that he has reservations about the project of creating a European Super League, as it would cause serious damage to domestic leagues.

According to the former German international, football fans in Germany identify with the current system and there are even fans that follow the semi-professional leagues.

"If the system changed, it could make it more difficult for many people to identify with football," Rummenigge said in an interview with TZ and Merkur.

"It could cause serious damage to the national leagues, that is why I have my reservations. If I had to decide today for Bayern, I would decline."

Rummenigge acknowledged that there was a lot of interest in the project above all from southern European countries, and he referred to the millions lost from big clubs in Italy and Spain as a potential reason for the desire of the European Super League.

"They naturally think where there can be growth in the future, and a Super League would bring economic growth and arouse interest," Rummenigge concluded.
