BREAKING NEWS: Rwanda sack head coach Vincent Mashami for failing one of his three targets

Published on: 15 January 2020

Rwanda have sacked head coach Vincent Mashami following the Amavubi back-to-back defeats in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifications.

Mashami was appointed in August 2018 and was tasked to secure at least four points in the first two 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying games against Mozambique and Cameroon.

The Amavubi lost both games, 2-0 to Mozambique at away and 1-0 to Cameroon in Kigali leaving with them no points after the two matches.

The former APR FC manager has already achieved two of the targets set for him at the time of his appointment but wasn't enough to save him his job.

Mashami guided Rwanda to a secure a spot in the next round of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers where they beat Seychelles on 10-0 aggregate.

He also ensured Rwanda have booked a place in the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) overcoming Ethiopia in the qualifications.

The Rwanda Football Federation is expected to announce Mashami's replacement in the coming weeks.
