Sadiq: Dzeko should not fear me at Roma

Roma’s young striker Umar Sadiq was disappointed that his side could not cling onto victory during their 3-3 Serie A draw against Chievo on Wednesday.

The Giallorossi conceded late on to drop two points at the Stadio Bentegodi, although the 18-year-old has insisted that his teammates should not be discouraged and that they must improve in time for their domestic home fixture against AC Milan this Saturday.

“We were unfortunate against Chievo yesterday,” said Sadiq to the official Roma website. “But we should not give up and we must continue to work hard and prepare to the best of our ability for the match against Milan.

“We created lots of chances during the course of the game and probably just needed a bit of luck.  Overall, I am disappointed with the draw and having not managed to win the match.”

The goalscoring youngster started the previous match in the place of the suspended Edin Dzeko, however Sadiq has reiterated that he is not aiming to steal the Bosnian’s spot in the starting XI.

“He should absolutely have no fear of me,” Sadiq insisted. “He is the irreplaceable holder of that position.

“For an attacker it is always very important to score and I am happy with my second goal in the championship, but it is not the right moment to discuss this possibility.

“I hope instead that Dzeko can re-enter the team at the first possible moment and try to help Roma.”
