Former Ghana international Sam Johnson has recounted his favourite ever match as a Fenerbahce player.

Johnson, 45, earned a stellar reputation as a cult hero at Fenerbahce following his consistent performances in the club's shirt.

The former Black Stars defender looks back on his time at the Istanbul-based giants with fond memories and has revealed that their 1-0 win against bitterest rivals Galatasaray during the 2000 Turkish campaign was the best game he ever played in.

In that memorable match, Johnson scored a powerful free-kick in the dying embers of the game to help overcome their city rivals.

“My happiest moment is when I beat Galatasaray 1-0. That game was our hell because we played at their home ground. They were on fire, they had just beaten Arsenal in the European Cup final and they beat Real Madrid in the Champions of Champions so you can imagine the kind of team we were playing with," he told Ghanaweb.

“They had more than 26 chance and we never had one. Everybody was looking at one side in the first half. In the second half too, everybody was looking at one side.

He is currently working as a physical instructor at his own gym and also a member of the professional football association of Ghana.
