Sampdoria coach doesn’t regret losing top scorer to Inter

Despite losing Sampdoria’s most prolific striker Eder, who moved to Inter in January, coach Vincenzo Montella insisted he is happy with his attack, praising his new signing Fabio Quagliarella.

The former Torino forward scored in the Blucerchiati’s last game, helping to seal a 2-0 home win against Frosinone to end the Genovese side’s eight-game winless streak.

“They [Quagliarella and Eder] are two different players,” the coach said during his press conference ahead of the Serie A clash at Verona on Sunday.

“Quagliarella is more inclined to play within the penalty area. Anyway, I’m happy with him [Quagliarella]. Looking behind us is just useless.”

The goal tally proved to be a minor issue for the Stadio Luigi Ferraris outfit, as they have scored 39 goals in  27 matches so far, ranking as the fifth Serie A attack. Poor defending was instead fatal in several occasions, as they have conceded 46 goals in the season, seven in their last five outings.

Following their victory over Frosinone, Sampdoria now sit 16th, five points clear the relegation zone.
