Sampdoria forward to potentially replace Santander at Bologna

Bologna have already made several changes to their squad this summer and the Rossoblu could sell Paraguayan striker Federico Santander to Jiangsu Suning while replacing him with Sampdoria forward Manolo Gabbiadini.

The 28-year-old joined the Felsinei from Danish club FC Copenhagen in the summer of 2018 but he scored just eight times in 32 Serie A matches during the 2018/19 season, and was often left on the bench once Sinisa Mihajlovic replaced Filippo Inzaghi as coach.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Jiangsu Suning are interested in signing Santander while Mihajlovic would prefer to revive the career of Italian striker Mattia Destro or play the experienced Rodrigo Palacio as a false nine.

The Serbian tactician would also like to bring Gabbiadini in to replace the Paraguayan striker. He coached the Italian international at Sampdoria from 2013 until 2015, while Bologna technical director Walter Sabatini brought the 27-year-old back to the Blucerchiati from English club Southampton in January.

Gabbiadini has also played for Bologna in the past, scoring six goals in 30 Serie A games in 2012/13.
