Sarri: Individual moments went against Napoli

Published on: 18 February 2016

Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri felt individual episodes cost his side during their 1-0 loss away at Villarreal.

The Partenopei held out for most of the first leg in Spain before Denis Suarez scored the only goal with a brilliant free kick.

“We played well at a stadium where Atletico and Real Madrid have lost,” said Sarri to reporters.

“The footballing Gods were against in certain moments. You have to accept that but qualification is still possible if the Stadio San Paolo gives us a hand.

“We were a bit unlucky at times but I’d be more worried if the team didn’t play but the statistics show that we played a good game.”

The Azzurri boss was also asked would rotate his team again after losing in the first leg of knockout Europa League play.

“Yes, the boys played well,” Sarri added.

“[Ivan] Strinic was excellent and [Manolo] Gabbiadini is looking to get back to top form and he did well.

“I don’t have any regrets in that regard, it’s important that we have all our players available because we have three big games coming up.”
