Sarri: Napoli must not underestimate Carpi

Published on: 06 February 2016

Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri urged his players not to underestimate Carpi as he believes the side in the relegation zone can pose problems for his team.

The Partenopei boss believes the Biancorossi are improving with experience during their debut Serie A season and he doesn’t expect them to park the bus.

“They’re [Carpi] a different team now, even in Florence they played with quality,” said Sarri to reporters.

“They’re not who they were in the first half of the season, they showed that in Milan and in Florence as they can play compact and hit teams on the break as they have players who can run.

“[Fabrizio] Castori has given them a mentality where they never give up and we cannot underestimate them.”

The 57-year-old also refused to get carried away about the qualities of his side despite them sitting top of Serie A.

“We’re still a team under construction,” Sarri added.

“There are still moments in which we are passive and lack ideas.

“We need to avoid that in order to keep improving, we have the experience to know that we must control games and keep playing football.

“When we become passive we become vulnerable.”
