Second Generation Players in Italy

Published on: 14 September 2016

With the amount of hype and expectation that comes from being the offspring of a legendary footballer, second generation professionals find it hard to escape comparisons with their fathers.

Here are five second generation players plying their trade in Italy.

Simone Andrea Ganz – Maurizio Ganz

More often then not if a son follows his father into professional football, they will adopt the same position as their father. This is certainly the case with Maurizio Ganz and his son Simone Andrea Ganz. A prolific striker in his time, Maurizio enjoyed positive spells with both Milan clubs, with his son ultimately joining the Rossoneri youth academy. Half a decade later he found himself playing for Como in Serie B scoring 31 goals in 77 appearances and earning a switch to Serie A champions Juventus.

The Old Lady may have loaned Ganz to Hellas Verona for the season, but the Bianconeri seem determined to get the best out of the young striker. His time at AC Milan was certainly beneficial, scoring regularly and captaining the Primavera team, before making his Champions League debut in 2011. His eye for goal and killer instinct make him seem more and more like his father game after game.
