Sekine returns to Urawa Reds

Saitama: Takahiro Sekine has rejoined Urawa Red Diamonds after his stint in Europe, the club announced on Friday.

Sekina began his professional career with his boyhood club in late 2013, and scored his first J.League goal later in May against Cerezo Osaka. Since his debut 'till 2017, the 24-year-old has assisted the Saitama-based club to runners-up finishes in the J.League in 2014 and 2016.

In August 2017, Sekine moved to play with German Second Division team, FC Ingolstadt 04, missing out on Urawa Reds' AFC Champions League triumph that year.

He was then loaned out to Netherland's Sint -Truiden in 2018, where he opened his European account with a late equaliser against KFCO Beerschot VA in April 2019.

His return will be beneficial to Urawa, who have just earned their place in the 2019 AFC Champions League quarter-finals after beating Korea Republic's Ulsan Hyundai FC 4-2 on aggregate in the Round of 16.

Urawa will learn their quarter-final opponents in the official draw ceremony at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.
