SERIE A - Ex-Roma boss Fonseca reveals interest in Inter midfielder

Published on: 28 November 2021

Former Roma boss Paulo Fonseca has revealed that he had tried to sign Nicolo Barella before he joined Inter from Cagliari.

Fonseca spoke to La Repubblica recently and he spoke about his life now and how he perceives Roma as a city now. The Portuguese told: “First Petrachi and then Pinto were my allies. But I experienced perhaps the most difficult moment of the last 15 years of Roma, with the company transition and yes, I was alone. I told my daughter that it is the most beautiful place in the world. I loved walking around, living near the center, seeing every corner, breathing its atmosphere.”

On his interest in bringing Barella to Roma, the ex-Shakhtar Donetsk boss claimed: “I would have liked Barella at Roma, I spoke to him a couple of times on the phone to try to convince him to come to us.”

Fonseca was linked with a move to Tottenham in the summer and was also linked with Manchester United in recent days but Ralf Rangnick seems destined for that role.
