SERIE A - Napoli boss Spalletti: "We were unlucky, though not good, against Empoli"

Published on: 13 December 2021

Commenting upon Napoli surprising home defeat, suffered by the hands of Empoli, Partenopei boss, Luciano Spalletti, stated:

We weren’t good tonight. I saw very little clear-headedness. If we look at the game overall, we pinned Empoli into their box at times but didn’t manage to convert our chances. Sometimes it doesn’t go your way and the opposite thing happens, which can punish you. We were unlucky at key points in the game.

In terms of the technical side, we didn’t manage to shut the opposition out and that’s down to us. There were moments in the game that didn’t go our way.

[Piotr] Zielinski wasn’t doing well. Luckily, it’s nothing, but he didn’t fancy risking it. [Lorenzo] Insigne and [Frank] Anguissa came on, but both of them weren’t at the top of their game. These things happen, but it must also be said that we’ve been missing several players for quite a few matches now. Sometimes it goes wrong during key pieces of play and you lack that stamp of quality, but we certainly should’ve managed the game better”.
