Serie A NAPOLI: VERDI, FABIAN RUIZ, MERET, KARNEZIS CHAT WITH FANS IN DIMARO

Simone Verdi, Fabian Ruiz, Alex Meret and Orestis Karnezis took to the stage at Dimaro theatre on Thursday evening as Napoli fans got chance to learn more about the club's four new signings.

The players fielded questions from the ever-passionate supporters who have made the trip up to the mountains for the team's pre-season training camp.

Below you can read a selection of key quotes from the event.

VERDI

“I'm delighted to have joined Napoli and I'm absolutely convinced by this club. There's a fabulous group of players here – they're top professionals and great lads. They help me every day and thanks to them I've been able to settle in straight away."

Why did you choose No.9?

“It's the number I wore at Bologna and it brought me luck so I wanted to keep it here.”

Who's going to be on free-kick duty, you or Dries Mertens?

“First of all, I'll have the honour of meeting him and playing with him because he's a fantastic player. As for free kicks, we'll have to see. The main thing is that whoever takes them scores!”

Are you glad to have joined Napoli at last after your potential move in January didn't go through?

“When the season ended I accepted Napoli's offer immediately because I wanted to come and play here. What happened in January was a personal matter. Now I'm at Napoli and that's what I wanted.”

Do you think Napoli can better last season's tally of 91 points?

“It won't be easy to repeat last season. I think 91 points would have won you the title in any of Europe's top leagues. You always need a bit of luck and hopefully we'll get that this season.”

You're good with both feet but which is your favourite foot?

“My left.”

FABIAN RUIZ

“I love it here at Napoli. The fans have given me such a warm welcome and I'm really happy.”

Which player would you like to emulate?

“Xavi.”

What's your favourite position?

“It's up to Ancelotti to decide where I play and I'm sure he'll find the right position for me. Napoli have a very strong midfield with lots of top-quality players. I want to give my all and settle in quickly."

“I can play on the right or on the left, I really don't mind. I just want to play and be able to express my football.”

What differences are there between Spanish and Italian football?

“Italian football is very tough but in terms of quality I don't think there's a lot of difference with Spanish football. I think I'll see what difficulties there might be further down the line. The main thing is having a strong, close-knit group as we've got here.”

MERET

“I'm happy Napoli decided to place their trust in an Italian goalkeeper. Italy has produced a long line of great goalies and I hope I can live up to the club's expectations."

“My new team-mates have given me a big hand and made me feel at home. It's a shame about my injury but I'm sure I'll be back soon – especially with all the positive energy I'm getting from everyone, including the fans."

“Napoli are a great team with big ambitions. We believe in our potential and we'll set out to challenge the other top sides. We'll give it our all and see where it takes us.”

On fellow goalkeeper Karnezis: “I'm fortunate to work with another keeper I know really well. Orestis and I are friends and whoever plays will give everything for this team.”

KARNEZIS

“I'm thrilled to have joined Napoli and I'm ready for this new adventure. I've accumulated a fair bit of experience and I want to put that to the use of the team."

“Alex [Meret] and I have known each other for years, since our time together at Udinese. It's our job to make sure we're both ready to step in at any time as that instils confidence in the team. I hope Alex recovers quickly so that he can show what he's capable of.”

On Ancelotti and karaoke: “He likes to have fun and sing with us and I must say he's pretty good. Personally, I prefer Greek music, though!"

“It's a dream to be able to work with such a successful coach. I really like the bond that's forming between the coach and the team.”
