Serie A Team of the Week | Round 3

Published on: 18 September 2019

Inter are alone at the top of the Serie A table, as Juventus dropped points against Fiorentina and Torino lost at home to Lecce.

Napoli got the job done with Sampdoria, just like Roma did with Sassuolo and AC Milan did at Hellas Verona, whilst Lazio fell at SPAL.

Our Team of the Week will see the usual 3-4-3 system deployed. Let us know your thoughts.

Gabriel – Lecce
Was beaten only by a penalty and was on point in at least two occasions in denying Torino from scoring.

Thiago Cionek – SPAL
One of the last ones to give up, almost impeccable at the back and helping out his team mates up front as SPAL came from behind to stun Lazio.

Luca Ceppitelli – Cagliari
It is quite rare to see a centre back score two goals in the same game. Bravo, Luca.

Diego Godin – Inter
Solid at the back and useful in the build up, as well as providing the assist for Sensi’s winning goal.

Riccardo Orsolini – Bologna
An assist and the winning goal, always at the heart of Bologna’s attack in what will go down as one of the greatest comebacks of the season.

Gaetano Castrovilli – Fiorentina
Coach Vincenzo Montella labelled him what could become the new Giancarlo Antognoni, after the fantastic all round performance he delivered against Juventus. Every single Fiorentina fan stood up for a standing ovation as he was subbed off. Sensational afternoon for the youngster.

Stefano Sensi – Inter (3 Team of the Week appearances)
Did the last thing you’d expect from him, but it was the decisive one for the Nerazzurri’s win. His winning header was the icing on the cake of another top class performance for Inter.

Lorenzo Pellegrini – Roma
Three assists in just 45 minutes – simply phenomenal playing in the hole behind Edin Dzeko.

Alfredo Donnarumma – Brescia
The jump from Serie B to Serie A did not scare him – he scored another brace, although not enough to give Brescia any points.

Duvan Zapata – Atalanta (2 apps)
Won the penalty that led to the opening goal, then scored an absolute thunder of a goal on 95 minutes to give Gian Piero Gasperini’s men the win.

Dries Mertens – Napoli
Sublime quality in both goals that gave Napoli all three points.
