Shafiu Mumuni no longer interested in local league – manager reveals

Former Ashanti Gold captain Shafiu Mumuni is eying a move abroad as he is no longer interested in playing in the Ghana Premier League, his manager Samuel Ebo Kwaitoo has revealed.

This revelation comes on the back of speculations that Mumuni is closing on a return to the league after he underwent trials in trials in Romania.

Kotoko, Hearts of Oak and Aduana Stars are said to have contacted the player.

Also, there were reports of Legon Cities were set to make a move for him.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Dreams FC had agreed to sign him but it turned out to be false as the club announced the signing of Agyenim Boateng. 

Amidst the speculations, Ebo Kwaitoo has said the striker has no motivation to play in the league. According to him, the player has options in Europe and Asia.

“Shafiu Mumuni has no motivation to play in Ghana, he has lost interest in the local league after winning all he could with AshantiGold”, Kwaitoo told Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM.

“I spoke to Kotoko but I revealed to them that the player will travel abroad for now."

“Also, Hearts of Oak and Aduana are all interested in him but have told the same."

“The options are Europe, Asia and in the unlikely event that these don’t work, then we look at the local scene, but that will be a club bigger than Ashantigold and can meet the financial demands.”

Mumuni captained the Black Stars B’ in the 2019 WAFU Zone B Championship where Ghana finished as runners-up.
