Shaikh Salman to review development projects in FIFA ExCo meeting

Zurich: Asian Football Confederation President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa is due to attend Thursday’s FIFA Executive Committee (ExCo) meeting in Zurich which will be chaired by FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

During the meeting, Shaikh Salman will present the report of the ninth meeting of the FIFA Development Committee which was held on Tuesday.

The Development Committee discussed several new development projects all of which are part and parcel of FIFA’s efforts to develop the game around the world.

The meeting, which was chaired by Shaikh Salman, also approved which countries will benefit from the GOAL, Challenger, Win-Win, Perform and Solidarity projects.

The ExCo meeting will also discuss the reports from FIFA’s Standing Committees which met this week, as well the application of the new FIFA reforms which were approved during the Extraordinary FIFA Congress in Zurich on February 26.

The FIFA ExCo will also approve the agenda for the next FIFA Congress which is set to be held in Mexico on May 12 and 13.

Shaikh Salman also attended a meeting of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Organising Committee which was held on Wednesday at FIFA headquarters.

The Committee discussed a report from the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Local Organising Committee, the on-going qualifiers for the competition and the timeline for the final matches, as well as several legal, marketing, financial and security issues related to organising the World Cup.

In addition, the AFC President was also present for Wednesday’s FIFA Confederations meeting which was chaired by FIFA President Infantino.

On the agenda were discussions on further cooperation between Confederations at all levels, as well as a ringing endorsement of the need for the global football family to support the new FIFA leadership.
