Sharp Aguero impresses Pep

Published on: 19 August 2018

Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero has never been in better shape according to his manager Pep Guardiola.

The Argentine forward netted a hat-trick as the champions swept aside Huddersfield 6-1 at the Etihad Stadium in their first home game of the new season.

Aguero opened the scoring in the first half and grabbed his second before half-time before going on to complete his 13th career hat-trick and ninth in the Premier League.

I never saw him like this since I was here.

Gabriel Jesus had scored City's second just after the half-hour mark. Some defensive napping from John Stones allowed Jon Gorenc Stankovic to stab home and make it 3-1 at the interval but that was as good as it got for David Wagner's side.

A brilliant free-kick from David Silva made it 4-1 before Aguero wrapped up his hat-trick with a sublime flick from Benjamin Mendy's cross.

A Terence Kongolo own goal sealed an emphatic win for an impressive City and, for Guardiola, Aguero's was the outstanding contribution.

"I never saw him like this since I was here," Guardiola said. "He is in an incredible condition with the ball and without the ball."

Manchester City have now scored 104 goals in 39 games at home under Pep Guardiola in the Premier League, while Aguero has scored 14 goals in his past eight league appearances at the Etihad.

Man City are 1/4 to win their next game away at Wolves on Saturday. The home side are 9/1 while the draw is 5/1.
