Silva has long-term aspirations

Published on: 20 April 2019

Marco Silva is keen to be given the opportunity to lay the foundations at Everton for a period of long-term success.

The former Watford and Hull City boss was named manager at Goodison Park last summer but it has been a season of frustration for the club.

They have been extremely inconsistent, emphasised by their recent results - home victories over Arsenal and Chelsea but a defeat at relegated Fulham last weekend.

Silva said: "We have to build - not my idea - we have to build the Everton idea. It will be perfect if we can have all the teams playing the same way.

"It is not easy to do but it is our aim to do more and more - to prepare the young players better to come and one day play in the first team.

"It is really important for me to know all the players in the club. We have our structure and it is something I want to be involved with [from top to bottom] as much I can."

Everton play Manchester United on Sunday and can be backed at 11/5 to beat Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team at Goodison Park.
