Simeone: Atletico Madrid's success is competing at this level every season

Diego Simeone was in a reflective move as he spoke to the press following Atletico Madrid's 0-0 draw with Barcelona at the Camp Nou.

The result sees El Cholo's side hold on to their place at the top of LaLiga Santander's table, with Barcelona and Real Madrid trailing behind.

"It's been a fantastic season," Simeone said post-match.

"There are four teams looking to finish as high as possible.

"We came to Barcelona to play a game full of teamwork and it went as we'd expected. We sustained attacks after winning the ball back, with a great first half and a little more even second half.

"They had a great headed chance at the end and we had [Yannick] Carrasco's opportunity, which, if [the ball] had been played earlier, we would've been in on goal.

"I leave here [feeling good] about the team's effort. We're not straying from the game to game.

"We're calm now, will rest tomorrow and prepare the game against Real [Sociedad] on Monday.

"It will always be like this, game by game."

Keeping Barcelona at bay could serve as a mental boost going into the last three games of the season, especially seeing as Atletico more than deserved their draw.

"I don't think about such things [as deserving to draw or win]," Simeone added.

"I think we had a good game. Barcelona were looking to hurt us.

"They're a great team, with [Ronald] Koeman doing a great job and I think they'll compete.

"They won the Copa del Rey. They have a chance of winning LaLiga.

"Real Madrid will compete to the end, like always. Sevilla could join the race tomorrow if they win."

"The only thing I asked my players to do is to play and be themselves.

"They did that today and it fills me with joy because our success is being able to compete every year where we're competing."
