Sirlord Conteh’s spirited display against Chelsea in Thursday’s UEFA Conference League encounter ended on a sour note as the German-born Ghanaian winger sustained an injury in Heidenheim's 0-2 loss.
Coach Frank Schmidt shared the update during Friday's press conference, casting uncertainty on Conteh’s availability for Sunday’s Bundesliga match against Frankfurt.
“He had problems after the game,” Schmidt revealed, highlighting muscular complaints among several players. The coach expressed caution, saying, “We’ll assess his condition today and tomorrow to determine who we can count on.”
Conteh’s injury overshadowed Chelsea's commanding performance. Mykhaylo Mudryk sealed the game with a stunning strike in the 86th minute after a slick sequence involving Jadon Sancho, Dewsbury-Hall, and Veiga. Earlier, Christopher Nkunku had opened the scoring with a cool finish following a brilliant team move in the 51st minute.
Chelsea’s clinical finishing left Heidenheim ruing missed opportunities, and now Schmidt faces an uphill task to prepare his squad. For Conteh, his status as a game-changer for Heidenheim hangs in the balance.
