Former Serie A striker Paolo Di Canio has been sacked by Sky Sport Italia after he exposed a Fascists ‘Dux’ tattoo while live on air.
The 48-year-old appeared for the likes of Lazio, AC Milan, Juventus and Napoli during a 23-year long playing career before a brief spell in coaching, and he now works as a pundit on television.
As revealed on Twitter by numerous viewers of Sky Sport Italia, a tattoo of the word ‘Dux’, representing Fascist leader Benito Mussolini, was exposed on his arm while on duty for the TV station, causing his former employers to publicly apologise and relieve Di Canio of his duties.
It is a crime in Italy to defend Fascism, and this isn’t the only time Di Canio has been in trouble due to his beliefs.
He received a one-match ban while playing for Lazio in 2005 after making a Fascist salute to the crowd.
