Solskjaer: 'Lukaku and Young top players, but I wanted a different team'

Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said Inter’s Alexis Sanchez, Ashley Young and Romelu Lukaku are ‘top players’ but he wanted ‘a different team’.

The Norwegian replaced Jose Mourinho in December 2018 and many of the players in the squad he inherited have moved on.

Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku and Ashley Young have moved to Inter, and were joined by another former Manchester United player Matteo Darmian this season.

“Every manager has their own focus and priorities,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports. “Those players are top players, top professionals.

“You can look at them and wish them all the best. But I made a decision, together with the club, that I wanted to have a different team.

“I’m not the one to talk about the evolution and compare one team to another. The proof is in the results.

“That’s the only way we can convince the fans that we are doing the right thing. But, for me, the team now is looking more like a team that I feel responsible for.”

Two other players have moved to Serie A, as Chris Smalling has spent the last two seasons at Roma and Diogo Dalot was loaned out to Milan.
