Some situations create distractions - Sports Minister on refusal to disclose Black Stars budget before games

Published on: 25 March 2025

Sports Minister Kofi Adams has revealed that he withheld the Black Stars' budget before their recent games against Chad and Madagascar to avoid distracting the team from their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers preparations.

By keeping the budget under wraps, Adams believed the team could focus on their gameplay.

According to Adams, revealing the budget would have been a distraction to the team's preparations.

"People were asking me to disclose the budget for the games, but I kept asking myself what the budget would do for the team ahead of the games?" he explained.

"Sometimes, some situations create distraction for the team, so we would weigh every situation before making a decision."

The decision seems to have paid off, as the Black Stars secured impressive wins against Chad (5-0) and Madagascar (3-0), putting them in a strong position to qualify for next year's World Cup.

Ghana currently leads Group I with 15 points from six games.
