Sousa: Fiorentina struggled to break down AC Milan

Published on: 17 January 2016

Fiorentina coach Paulo Sousa said his team struggled in the final third during their 2-0 defeat to AC Milan in Serie A.

Carlos Bacca bagged the opening goal before Kevin-Prince Boateng completed the scoring and Sousa was open about his side’s faults during the game.

“We were not good enough in the final third,” Sousa told Sky Sport Italia after the match.

“We searched for the breakthrough but it just would not come.

“We had control of the game against Milan who waited for us to make mistakes.

“Of course we now aim to play better and better as always.

“Some individual mistakes have been made, but there are also positives to take.

“There were some absences due to injury and we are mid-way through a transfer window so it was not the right time to make any big tactical changes.”

Giuseppe Rossi made an appearance in the final 25 minutes, but is still without a goal for close to two years.

“He is a player who has not played continuously for years now,” Sousa added.

“We have done a tremendous job with him, meaning he has never missed a training session when available.

“The club have given him a chance to compete.”

Fiorentina will be aiming to bounce back in their next game when they take on Torino at home next Sunday.
