South Africa vs Ghana: Bafana coach reveals ace Percy Tau 'not in shape' for Black Stars clash
Percy Tau has not been active over the past few months

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has lamented over the form of South Africa's playmaker Percy Tau ahead of the  2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup qualifier against Ghana on Monday, insisiting the new Al Ahly striker is not in the best shape for the match in Johannesburg.

Bafana lost their first points in this qualification programme and are second behind Ghana, who beat Ethiopia 1-0 at the Cape Coast Stadium on Friday while they were to a goalless draw by Zimbabwe.

The South Africans are desperate to get back into the scheme of things when they take on the Black Stars in their next Group B on Monday and they will be counting on Tau to be in form.

The midfielder recently moved from English side Brighton to Ahly but the lack of action before he moved to the Egyptian side looks to have affected his sharpness.

Broos reflected on his first match as Bafana Coach. He said that he was pleased with the mentality and overall performance of the players, but Tau must the in top form to cause some problems for the Black Stars.

"With Percy I think you can see that at the moment he is not in the best shape," said the Belgian coach who won the Africa Cup of Nations title with Cameroon in 2017.

“It is something in the next week that he (Tau) must work on but he remains a good player and that’s the reason he stayed for longer in the game.

"I hope that in the next games in October and November we will have a better Percy. I thought Teboho Mokoena and Mothobi Mvala played very well and it was OK.”

Ghana will try to return to the global tournament when the tournament takes place in the Asian country of Qatar next year.

CK Akonnor's team will travel to South Africa to play on matchday two in Johannesburg on Monday in their attempt to qualify for their fourth World Cup appearance.

After missing the 2018 event in Russia, Ghana has set their sights on returning to the World Cup.

The Black Stars reached the world showpiece in Germany 2006 where they were making their first appearance.

They then went on to reach the Round of 16.

They secured a qualification ticket for the South African 2010 edition. This campaign saw them reach the quarter-finals, where they were defeated by Uruguay.

They made their third consecutive appearance at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil but they were forcedexit at the group stage for the first-time.
