Premier League side Southampton have emerged as the favourites to sign Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu from Real Valladolid at the end of the season, according to reports.

In his first season in Spanish La Liga, the defender has been excellent, hence attracting interest from big boys in Europe including Manchester United.

However, Southampton are one of the frontrunners for Salisu, who would cost in the region of £10.8m, according to L'Equipe.

While the Saints are willing to bring the centre-back to the Premier League, it is claimed that they are yet to agree terms with Ghanaian.

Although French side Rennes have also been suggested as a potential destination, Salisu is said to prefer a switch to England.

The defender joined Valladolid in 2019 and still has two years remaining on his contract.

Salisu has made 31 appearances in La Liga so far this season. He is currently nursing an injury which has ruled him out of Valladoli's big clash against Barcelona on Saturday.
