Spain to face Italy in Nations League semi-finals

Published on: 03 December 2020

Italy will be Spain's rival in the semi-finals of the UEFA Nations League final four, which will take place in Italy next October.

The match between La Roja and the Azzurri will be held at the Stadio San Siro in Milan on October 6, and Belgium will take on France a day later at Juventus' ground, Allianz Stadium, one day later.

Spain have not faced Italy since September 2017, when La Roja beat their opponents 3-0 at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, in a game where Isco was the central character.

Next October's duel will be the 37th match between the two nations, who have registered 11 victories each, with Spain having beaten Italy twice on penalties: in the 2008 European Championship and five years later in the Confederations Cup.

The last time they played each other in a major tournament, Antonio Conte's Italy beat La Roja 2-0 at the last-16 stage of the 2016 European Championship.

After failing to make it to the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Italy have bounced back and are currently one of the most in-form national teams in Europe. They are unbeaten in their last 22 games, with their last defeat dating back to September 2018.
