Spalletti insists he’s 'ready to get back on the bench'

Luciano Spalletti seems set for a return to football and insists he’s ‘ready to get back on the bench’, prepared to free himself from the contract with Inter.

The former Nerazzurri and Roma tactician has been linked with Newcastle in recent weeks and Sky Sport Italia has claimed Spalletti, who was replaced by Antonio Conte at San Siro last summer, has been taking English lessons.

A move to Milan fell through as Spalletti was not willing to terminate his contract worth €4.5m a year and allegedly prepared to drain Inter for every penny in his deal expiring in 2021.

But the broadcaster claims time has healed the wounds and that the former Zenit St Petersburg coach is now ready to find an agreement with CEO Beppe Marotta.

Sky writes that he’s dreaming of a job in England but that there are currently no concrete offers.

“The economic aspect doesn’t matter, I coach because I like to do it,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “And now I want to get back on the bench.”

The 60-year-old left Inter at the end of last season following successive top-four finishes in Serie A.
