Spalletti: Roma must believe they can beat Juventus

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti has urged his squad to believe they can emerge victorious when they travel to play Juventus in Turin on Sunday evening.

The 56-year-old will be hoping to guide the Giallorossi to three points and halt the Bianconeri’s ten-game winning streak in Serie A.

“Juventus have been very good this season but if we go on to the field with the belief that we can win, then we probably will succeed,” Spalletti told reporters at during his pre match press conference.

“If you go on to the pitch convinced you won’t win, then that will definitely happen.

“Our mentality must be to play a strong game against a team going through great form. The team must be ready to change its behaviour on the field. At the moment, we aren’t making movements that are completely natural to us.

“However, I must say that we have worked well in training this week and I want to see a reaction from the boys. On Sunday, it will be a matter of complete, hard work.”

Spalletti went on to clarify the situation regarding Gervinho and confirmed former Stephan El Shaarawy will join the club as soon as a deal can be finalised.

“We have no intention of selling our best players,” he added.

“I have spoken with Gervinho, he is a little unsettled by all of the transfer market rumours. Gervinho is very important but for me, it is equally important that his heart and mind is completely focused on Roma.

“El Shaarawy is a positive, attacking player who knows how to score. He was a little lost recently but I’ve talked to him and was pleased with the outcome. If he wants to get back into the national team, then he will have to do well in the months ahead with Roma.”
