Spalletti: The Totti situation is behind Roma

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti was delighted with his side’s performance against Palermo at the Stadio Olimpico.

The Giallorossi demolished the Sicilians 5-0 after they had lost 2-0 at home to Real Madrid in the Champions League in the week.

“I always analyse the performance and tonight was impeccable,” said Spalletti to Premium Sport.

“It could have seemed easy but there was always a risk of a drop off after the Champions League but instead the players recharged their batteries against a [Giuseppe] Iachini side and I appreciate the value of that.”

The Giallorossi boss also discussed club icon Francesco Totti after he was excluded from the squad ahead of the big win.

“The situation is already over, he came to watch the match and he will train tomorrow,” Spalletti added.

“It was just a moment of anger in response to a unhappy moment.

“It came after I asked him to put the Champions League behind him and get ready for a game which seemed easy.

“Then this situation arose which goes against the interests of the team, everybody has their role and one footballer can’t change this.

“That’s how you have to manage a group. It’s true that you have to have respect for a great champion but you have to have it for everybody.”
