Football and sport have joined the fight against the coronavirus.
The pandemic is affecting more than 150 countries and sportsmen and clubs are beginning to donate money to fight COVID-19 and its consequences on those affected by it.
Italian football faces up to the virus
In Italy, one of the countries in Europe most affected by the disease, its football players and teams have led some of the solidarity initiatives.
Torino striker Simone Zaza explained to Radio MARCA about an initiative he has started, which has generated more than 30,000 euros to help those affected.
Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne has donated 100,000 euros to the Italian health system.
Valentino Rossi has joined the initiative Together for Marche Nord, which raises funds to fight against the virus.
With Rossi's contribution, 20 machines for ICU patients have been purchased.
In addition, Juventus president Andrea Agnelli, together with his family, the owners of companies such as Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ferrari and CNH Industrial, made a donation of 10 million euros, as well as medical devices, to the Italian Civil Protection.
The German national team donates 2.5 million euros
The German national team's players have donated 2.5 million euros to help fight the coronavirus pandemic as a gesture of solidarity in the face of the current situation.
"Rarely has the world been in a situation like this," Borussia Monchengladbach centre-back Matthias Ginter said.
"It is impressive how you support each other.
"We as a team also want to do our part and have donated 2.5 million euros in immediate aid."
Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka emphasised the wide scale of this issue.
"This is a problem that affects everyone, not just the older generation," he noted.
"As a team, we have taken a step forward and I hope many of you will follow us.
"Every gesture is important.
"In the meantime, keep your health, stay at home and I hope we can see each other on the football pitch soon."
Ibrahimovic's fundraiser against coronavirus
AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has set up an online fundraiser to help Italy fight against the coronavirus pandemic, with funds going to the Humanitas Hospitals in northern Italy.
The Swede has donated 100,000 himself and the goal is to reach one million euros, with the figure already having reached 111,000 euros in the last few hours.
More than 2,500 deaths have already been recorded in Italy and more than 30,000 people have been infected.
"Together we can really help hospitals and doctors and nurses who work tirelessly every day to save our lives," Zlatan said in a post on social media.
"Because today we are the ones cheering for them!
"And remember: if the virus doesn't come to Zlatan, Zlatan will come to the virus!"
Espanyol provide more than 6,000 masks
Espanyol reported last Wednesday in a statement that 6,000 masks were donated to various medical centres and hospitals to help address the spread of the coronavirus.
The Catalan club, who has six members of their first-team squad and coaching staff infected, sent this medical material to the Hospital de Nens, the Corachan Clinic, the Consorci Sanitari del Maresme, the Consorci Sanitari del Garraf and the Red Cross.
Chelsea have opened their hotel to NHS staff
Chelsea are also committed to fighting the coronavirus.
The English giants have announced that they is handing over the Millennium Hotel, which is next to Stamford Bridge, to the British Public Health Service (NHS).
Roman Abramovich, Chelsea's owner, is behind this measure and he communicated this to Bruce Buck, the club's president, to contact the NHS to start the transformation of the hotel.
Abramovich has communicated that he will bear all the costs of this process of change in the function of the hotel, which will be used for a period of two months by the health workers.
