Ex-Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has vowed to continue fighting to salvage the dwindling fortunes of his club Cesena even though he was  named man-of-match over the weekend.
The inspirational player’s stock has risen since joining the newly promoted side at the start of the season and putting in some impressive performances.
He was named man-of-match in their last game against Sampdoria even though they lost 1-0 in the last minute of the Serie A encounter.
Appiah is delighted that he is regaining his sharpness after recovering for a career threatening knee injury.
“Physically I am improving match after match so the more matches I play, I will surely get much much better,†Appiah told Ghanasoccernet.com exclusively.
“I am happy that everyone here in Italy is seeing the former Stephen Appiah and I am personally surprised with the man-of-the-match award.
“I will continue to fight form my team first before thinking about any personal awards. Also if I get better all the time the confidence will be sustained.â€
Last week’s defeat left Cesena 18th in the 20-team league which puts pressure on Cesena to revive their fortunes.
Despite being in outstanding personal form, Appiah says personal awards count for nothing if they fail to win their matches.
“I want Cesena to win the matches and that is the most important thing,†Appiah told Ghanasoccernet.com in an exclusive interview.
“We are playing very well but sadly at the very last minute of every game we let in a goal which his disheartening.
“We are not happy with what is going on, the fans are not happy and we must quickly turn things around.â€
Appiah retired from national team duties to concentrate on his club career as he was left on the bench at the World Cup.
He is the first captain to lead Ghana to the World Cup in 2006 and made another history by helping in the qualification for the global tournament four years later.
