Stevanovic hails mental toughness of bereaved Annan

Ghana coach Goran Stevanovic insists midfielder Anthony Annan is ready to play against Tunisia despite the death of his mother.

The 25-year-old who is currently with the Black Stars for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations received the bad news of his mother’s death on Thursday – three days before Ghana’s crucial quarter final match with Tunisia.

But Ghana’s Serbian coach in hailing the mental toughness of the Vitesse Arnhem player says Annan could draw inspiration from the unfortunate circumstance he finds himself.

“In everything there is a good side and a weak side,” Stevanovic said.

“It is really difficult moment for him (Annan) and we support him a lot.

“There is a big motivation for him to play and I am sure she (Annan’s mother) would love for him to play for the national team.”

The Black Stars will be spotting black armbands when they take to the field on Sunday against the Carthage Eagles in solidarity with their teammate.
