Stoke 1-2 Brentford: Ivan Toney ends mini-goal drought as Bees advance to Carabao Cup last eight

Published on: 27 October 2021

Ivan Toney ended a four-game goal drought as Brentford stormed into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals for the second straight year with a 2-1 win at Championship side Stoke.

The Bees made nine changes from their last Premier League line-up but it was two out of the three who retained their places who put them into a 2-0 half-time lead away from home.

Sergi Canos' shot from the edge of the area went through several bodies and into the Stoke net mid-way through the first-half, before Toney doubled the west Londoners' advantage just before half-time with a low finish from Marcus Forss' pass.

Romaine Sawyers pulled a goal back with his own shot from the edge of the penalty area but the Bees held on to reach the last eight.

More to follow.
