Sunderland striker Gyan up for award

Striker Asamoah Gyan will attend the launch of the second annual Ghana UK Based Achievement (GUBA) Awards Ceremony.

The exclusive unveiling of GUBA 2011 nominees will take place at The Ghana High Commission, Belgrave Square, London.

The awards also recognise those who have made an outstanding impact in the last year in commerce, sports and entertainment.

Gyan graces the category of Best African Sports Personality alongside triple-jumper Philips Idowu, world 5,000 metre champion Mo Farah, and Arsenal Ladies star Rachel Yankey.

Andy Ansah, creator of reality TV series Wayne Rooney’s Street Striker, and the founders of corporate cuisine company Jollof Pot are two of the nominees for the Best Entrepreneur category.

Arsenal midfielder and Ghana International Emmanuel Frimpong is included in the rising star category.

The Guardian newspaper’s Afua Hirsch and former 3AM Girl Eva Simpson are among the nominees for the Best Print Journalist category.
