SWAG salutes Hearts on 100th birthday anniversary

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has congratulated Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club on their 100th birthday anniversary celebration whioch falls on 11- 11- 2011.

 

A statement signed by Ackah Anthony, President of SWAG copied to GNA Sports, said “On this day that you mark 100 years of existence in our football history, there is no doubt that you have chalked remarkable successes, exemplified by the winning of several laurels on the domestic and international scene.

 

“The memories of your conquests of the entire continent in 2000 and 2001 are still fresh in the minds of many Ghanaians and the Phobian fraternity because of the honour and dignity they brought to us as a nation”, the statement said.

 

“We recollect with fond memories how you conquered continental greats like of Al Ahly, Esperance and Zamalek Clubs to win the CAF Champions League and Super Cup, and we cannot hide, but share the joy with you as you, count all your successes on this day after hundred years of existence”.

 

The statement said the Club on the local scene has countless achievements which will make it a daunting task for any to count, making them deserve the best on the occasion.

 

“Hundred years of existence is no mean an achievement as many have come and gone, but the great 'Oak Tree' has survived all manner of turbulence, whilst creating an indelible mark in the soccer history of the nation.

 

“As you celebrate your 100th mark in the football history of Ghana, it is our hope that you will take steps to ensure further success in the implementation of the floatation of shares on the stock market, transformation of the Pobiman land into a fully-fledged sports complex in the shortest possible time and other key projects that will give the Club a befitting status and ever lasting image in annals of Ghana football.

 

“We on this note wish to congratulate you once again on this memorable occasion, and it is our hope that it will be a turning point for greater transformation in the history of the Club” the statement noted.

 

The Phobians will climax the centenary celebrations with an international friendly against Enugu Rangers of Nigeria on Sunday, November 13 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
