Ghanaian full-back Andrew Mensah has signed a deal to join Chelmsford City first-team in the English Conference League.

Mensah, 21, started the season at Southern Football League Division One side Northwood, but his fine performances quickly drew interest from local rivals Hillingdon Borough which developed into a mid-season move.

The young full-back, compared by former-Northwood manager Jesse Smith to Manchester City and England full-back Micah Richards, at the same time started training with high-flying Chelmsford and has impressed enough to secure a move.

"I'm very happy to be part of the team," Mensah said upon signing. ''I am now fully focused on helping to maintain our promotion push.''

Chelmsford lie in 5th spot in the Conference South table with just seven games remaining. With the side currently in a play-off spot, promotion to the Conference itself is a distinct possibility.

For the young Ghanaian, there is now a fantastic opportunity to move up the leagues in the English game.

The 21-year-old has impressed season-long, but must now continue to work hard if he is to get even halfway to emulating Richards' achievements.
