Tanguy Ndombele close to Lyon return on loan

Published on: 30 January 2022

Tanguy Ndombele is close to completing a loan move back to Lyon as he looks to end his Tottenham nightmare.

The France international was Spurs' record signing during the summer of 2019 but issues with form and fitness have seen him struggle, with his last appearance in north London coming in a drab display during the FA Cup win over Morecambe.

Multiple reports now claim Ndombele is close to moving back to France, though not with Paris Saint-Germain as was initially reported.

PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino - who took Ndombele to north London when he was Spurs manager - was thought to be keen on reuniting with the midfielder, but the deal proved too complicated to complete.

The signing of Rodrigo Bentancur - who will be accompanied by Juventus' Dejan Kulusevski - should pave the way for Ndombele to leave on loan.

He isn't expected to be the only player to leave Tottenham in the final few days of the transfer window, either.

Bryan Gil is putting the finishing touches on his move to Valencia, having barely had a sniff of first team football since his summer move. Giovani Lo Celso was also interesting Lyon, though those talks have collapsed as the Argentina international is said to favour a switch to Villarreal.

The futures of Dele Alli and Joe Rodon also need to be sorted. Neither have enjoyed much game time under Antonio Conte since the Italian's arrival and could be moved on before Monday's deadline.
