Tanzania becomes first African country to start new season amid coronavirus

Tanzania is the first African country to start the new season amid coronavirus pandemic as it got underway last Sunday. 

The East African country were also the first on the continent to resume football after a Covid-19 shutdown, playing from June with spectators permitted.

While Tanzanian clubs have started their new season, South Africa only completed their 2019/2020 season last weakened.

Tunisia will finish theirs this Sunday and clubs in Egypt have between nine and 12 fixtures still to fulfil.

A resurgence of the virus in Morocco led to many postponements. In Ghana, the football association is hoping to get government clearance to start new season in October.

Ghana were one of many country’s to cancel their 2019/20 season.
