Ghana defender Tariq Lamptey made his second appearance of the season after climbing off the bench to help Brighton and Hove Albion progress in the EFL Cup.
Lamptey, who is yet to start a game in the Premier League, replaced Julio Enciso with eight minutes remaining as the Seagulls defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-2 to reach the round of 16.
In an electric start to the game at the Amex Park, Carlos Baleba and Simon Adingra gave Brighto a two-goal lead before the hour mark.
Goncalo Guedes pulled one back for Wolves at the stroke of half-time but summer arrival Ferdi KadıoÄlu restored Brighton's two-goal lead with five minutes remaining.
Tommy Doyle reduced the deficit in injury time but it was too late for a redemption from the visitors.
Meanwhile, Lamptey, who was linked with a move away from Brighton in the summer transfer window, will be hoping for more game time this season.
Manager Fabian Hurzeler praised Lamptey and the second-half substitutes for their display against their Premier League rivals.
“I'm not only happy for the substitutes, also players who gained some game time today, especially Pervis Estupinan after a long injury but also Mats [Wieffer], who came back after his injury. You see that they need game time to get back into the rhythm. But on top of that, we had some brilliant individual performances," he said.
