Team of the Week: Sarpong scores in Spain

Would-be Ghanaian Jeffery Sarpong proved his worth with a classic goal after coming on as a second half substitute in Real Sociedad's 2-1 defeat at Levante on Sunday.

Sarpong replaced Antoine Griezmann on 65 minutes and got the consolation Sociedad which currently lie 14th on the league table.

Elsewhere in the Segunda, centre-back Jonathan Mensah was an unused substitute as Granada FC were held to a one-all draw by Rayo Vallecano.

Striker Ransford Osei is yet to taste first team action for Granada FC.

Former AshGold and Ghana Under-20 midfielder Wakaso Mubarak was the livewire in Elche FC's midfield as they secured a scoreless draw at Cordoba.

England:

Ghana first choice goalkeeper Richard Kingson watched from the bench as Manchester City stole a 2-3 win over his side Blackpool at their own backyard.

In Scotland:

Dundee United succumbed to a 1-2 defeat at the hands of giants Celtic.

Midfielder Prince Buaben was in full time action for the Terrors.

Italy:

Ex-Ghana captain Stephen Appiah continued with his impressive displays in the Italian Serie A and on Sunday played 90 minutes for Cesena in their 1-1 draw with Parma.

Midfield talisman Kwadwo Asamoah was started from the bench as Udinese picked their second Serie A win of the season at the expense of Cagliari in a 1-0 win.

Compatriot Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu was not picked for the trip.

Sulley Muntari was an 86th minute substitute for Inter Milan which beat Cagliari 0-1 to move top of the Serie A table.

Germany:

TSG Hoffenheim fought hard to overpower a Borussia Monchengladbach 3-2.

Defender Isaac Vorsah played 85 minutes but striker Prince Tagoe lost his place to Nigerian Chinedu Obasi who made a return from long term injury.

Denmark:

Ghana youth Enoch Adu Kofi was in full swing and lasted the entire duration for FC Nordsjaelland which settled for a 1-1 home draw with Brondby.

Holland:

Kwame Quansah was booked on the 48th minute for Heracles Almelo in their 3-0 romping over NEC Nijmegen.

Eric Addo is still struggling to secure a starting role at Roda JC.

The former PSV Eindhoven defender sat on the bench in a pulsating game that saw Roda JC triumph 4-1 over Vitesse Arnhem which did not feature Laryea Kingston.

Belgium:

William Owusu Acheampong enjoyed full time action for Cercle Brugge which beat Anderlecht 1-0 at home.

Winger Abdul Yakini Iddi was replacd after 74 minutes as KV Mechelen which earned a point at Westerlo in a 1-1 draw.

Akwettey Mensah was red-carded in the 57th minute for Lierse SK in their one-all draw at Germinal Beerschot.

Right-back Daniel Opare was an unused substitute in Standard Liege's 2-4 defeat to leaders Racing Genk.

Others

Haminu Dramani watched from the substitute bench for Lokomotiv Moscow which nicked a narrow 1-0 win over Spartak Nalchik.

In the Israeli Premier League, Stephen Ahorlu and Eric Gawu were both in action for Hapoel Ashkelon which failed to find the net against Hapoel Acco in a barren draw.
