Teenager Fati 7/10, Griezmann poor as Barca drop points again at Osasuna

Published on: 31 August 2019

Barcelona dropped points for the second time in three games this season as they were held to a surprise 2-2 draw by newly-promoted Osasuna in Pamplona on Saturday.

The home side took the lead through Roberto Torres but Barca turned things around with goals from substitutes Ansu Fati -- who at 16 becomes the club's youngest ever goalscorer in La Liga -- and Arthur.

However, Osasuna grabbed a point late on when Gerard Pique handled the ball inside the area and Torres subsequently scored from the penalty spot for his second of the evening.

Positives

With Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele all missing through injury, the big positive was Ansu. He came on at half-time and within five minutes had levelled the game with a clever header. At 16 years and 304 days old, he's the third-youngest goalscorer in La Liga -- and now Barca's youngest ahead of Bojan Krkic.

Another substitute also had an impact. Even ignoring his goal, Arthur helped change Barca's tempo and they looked much better with him on the pitch. A sublime pass opened up Osasuna late on, but Carles Perez wasted the chance.

Negatives

Barca are still waiting for an away win this season. This draw followed their opening day loss at San Mames against Athletic Bilbao. The performances mirror the results, too. They look a different side on the road compared to when they play at Camp Nou.

One of the problems is they keep conceding the first goal. Even at home last weekend, against Real Betis, that was the case. No matter who you are, you can't keep giving the opposition a one-goal head start.

Manager rating out of 10

5 -- Ernesto Valverde will take the majority of the flack for an awful first-half showing but his substitutions did at least look to have changed the game. Both Ansu and Arthur had an instant impact off the bench as Barca came from behind only to drop two more points.

Player ratings (1-10; 10 = best, players introduced after 70 minutes get no rating)

GK Marc-Andre ter Stegen, 6 -- Could do little about either of Torres' goals: the first a brilliant finish and the second a penalty. Other than that, was reduced to saves from long-range efforts.

DF Nelson Semedo, 6 -- Was certainly not the face of Barca's poor first-half but he did pay the price for it and was taken off at the break.

After two goals last week vs. Real Betis. Antoine Griezmann cut a frustrated figure in Pamplona on Saturday.

DF Gerard Pique, 6 -- Did fairly well until giving away the penalty which saw Osasuna equalise. Complained about the decision, but his hand was up and the ball did strike it.

DF Clement Lenglet, 6 -- Twisted and turned by Brandon in the build-up to the opening goal. Other than that, like Pique, he did OK.

DF Jordi Alba, 6 -- Was up and down the left flank but still looks short of some of the form he showed last season. Missing his pal Messi, perhaps.

MF Sergio Busquets, 7 -- The pick of Barca's midfielders. Didn't excel in the opening period but his pressing led to the second goal.

MF Sergi Roberto, 5 -- Is that the end of the return-to-midfield experiment? After two-and-a-half games, Valverde moved him back to right-back at half-time after a below-par performance in the middle.

MF Frenkie de Jong, 6 -- Forced to aimlessly carry the ball forward in the opening 45 minutes due to a lack of options around him. Improved after the break when paired with Arthur and pressed well.

FW Carles Perez, 7 -- Set up both the Barca goals in another bright showing after opening his account for the club last week. He will have been disappointed to fluff a great chance to win the game in the 88th minute.

FW Antoine Griezmann, 5 -- After starring in the win over Betis, the French forward disappeared here.

Substitutes

FW Ansu Fati, 7 -- Flicked home a header to get Barca back into the game moments after coming on.

MF Arthur, 7 -- Set the rhythm after coming on in the 50th minute. Has not been seen much this year due to starting preseason late, but has made his case to come back into the starting XI now.

MF Arturo Vidal, N/R -- Came on late on for De Jong.
