The huge financial package to promote Saudi Arabia that Ronaldo rejected

Published on: 23 January 2021

Cristiano Ronaldo has turned down a big money offer from Saudi Arabia's tourism authority.

He was asked to do publicity to promote the country as a holiday destination and was reportedly offered six million euros per year.

That's according to The Telegraph, who explain that the Juventus forward passed on this offer.

As part of the deal, Ronaldo would have appeared in adverts and would have been asked to pay visits to the country.

The British newspaper have also reported that Lionel Messi's representatives were also approached about a similar opportunity.

This isn't the first time that Saudi Arabia has turned to football for promotion, as the country even hosted the 2020 Supercopa de Espana.

They're trying to launch a "Visit Saudi" campaign, but have been heavily criticised in recent times over their human rights record.
