Leicester City forward Jordan Ayew has expressed admiration for former Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson, describing him as the most influential coach he has worked with in his career.
According to Ayew, Hodgson’s rare loyalty and deep understanding of his players set him apart in modern football.
The 33-year-old forward played under Hodgson during two spells at Palace, first joining the club on loan in 2018 before making the move permanent.
Over the years, Ayew and the English manager developed a close bond, with the striker crediting him as a key figure in both his professional and personal growth.
“Roy Hodgson just understood me. He knew what I needed at any time,” Ayew told Joy Sports. “He was like a father figure to me, like a grandfather. Not just in football, but even in lifeâhis advice helped me a lot.”
Ayew emphasized that Hodgson’s commitment and honesty were qualities that set him apart. “He was, and still is, a loyal manager. That loyalty is something you don’t see often in football,” he noted.
Hodgson’s influence on Ayew’s career remains significant, with the forward attributing much of his development to the veteran coach’s guidance and trust.
