The reason behind the breakup between James Rodriguez and Queiroz

It is not a secret at all that Carlos Queiroz has lost the dressing room with the Colombian national team, and everything could have begun after an incident that involved the Portuguese coach and James Rodriguez.

Queiroz parted ways with Colombia this week, but the breaking point in the relationship between him and James came in the friendlies against Peru and Ecuador in November last year.

James could not join Colombia for the aforementioned matches and Queiroz decided to hand Brighton midfielder Steven Alzate the current Everton playmaker's No.10 shirt for the duel against Ecuador.

As journalist Javier Hernandez Bonnet has revealed, that was the turning point in James' relationship with Queiroz, who lost his players faith later on due to his tactical changes and some minor details that finally cost him his job.

"They assure me that their relationship, at least James' trust towards the coach, after giving Alzate the number 10 shirt, was not great," said Bonnet. "I don't know if it pathed the way [for Queiroz's departure]."

The truth is that in the last two Colombia matches, there was hardly any contact between the player and the coach on the field. Their relationship was much colder than the team's last Copa America match against Chile, where James approached Queiroz several times on the sideline to be given orders.

With the group divided, without James' confidence and an indefensible crisis in terms of results, problems accumulated for Queiroz until he lost the dressing room.

Colombia and Queiroz reached a financial agreement and the latter departed the national team, currently being in search of a new side to be in charge of.
