There has been broken relationship between Barcelona's dressing room and board

Barcelona's ERTE and all the ins and outs of whether Quique Setien's squad would accept a pay cut or not have done nothing but confirm what we already knew: there is a clear rift between the dressing room and the board.

It's not that there's tension or time, it's that the relationship seems totally broken now. There is no way it can be repaired because the players don't trust the directors. They don't accept their explanations because of the constant and reiterated attacks they think they've received. They don't believe them, and they take their distance. The board are also accumulating complaints about the players, one of which is their delay in saying yes to the ERTE, which has arrived a day later than their colleagues from the club's other sections.

The third paragraph of today's player statement is not only the umpteenth public confrontation this season - it's a bad sign when arguments are made public intentionally - but also evidence of the immense distance that exists between players and club.

"It doesn't surprise us that the club wanted to put us back under the microscope and try to pressure us into doing something we were always going to do. In fact, if the agreement has been delayed in the last few days, it's simply because we were finding a formula to help the club and also our employees in such difficult times," it reads.

The message couldn't be more destructive. The players are angry because they think that, once again, like after the sacking of Ernesto Valverde, that they've been used. The dressing room has spoken up again. Josep Maria Bartomeu is marked and he knows it. The board also have complaints about the dressing room. What's left of the president's time in the Barcelona office will be very complicated.
