There is a lot of work to do under Klopp to turn it around at Liverpool – Carragher

Jamie Carragher believes that manager Jurgen Klopp has his work cut out in order to turn things around at Liverpool.

Liverpool have made clear progress under Klopp and their brave fight in the final of the Capital One Cup against Manchester City would most certainly have encouraged the German.

However, the Merseysiders still look like they have a long way to go in order to challenge for the Premier League title anytime soon and club legend Carragher has stated that Klopp has plenty in front of him if he wants to turn the Reds into contenders once again.

The former defender said on Sky Sports: "Klopp will realise there is a lot of work to do in terms of turning it around.

"To take City to penalties he should be proud of the players. They never left anything out on the pitch. In extra time they looked the team who were going to win.

"But there's a big problem with where they are in terms of the Premier League. What can they win? Liverpool are a big club and are nowhere near winning the Premier League. They are nowhere near winning the Champions League."

Carragher also touched on Liverpool's hopes of winning silverware this season which now hinges on their Europa League Round of 16 meeting with arch enemies Manchester United.

"Are Liverpool good enough to win the Europa League? Probably not," he added.

"There are a lot of good teams left. Now the game against Manchester United in the Europa League, that's the big game. The season is resting on it.

"It's almost like a cup final now. There's no doubt it's been a disappointing season and there is lots for Klopp to do."
