Former Nigeria U23 star Kingsley Udoh has revealed that Kumasi will be a scary place for the Super Eagles on Friday when they face Ghana in the first-leg of the decisive 2022 World Cup playoff revealing that juju and human excreta was aplenty in their dressing room when he once played there.
The defender recounted his experience playing against Ghana at the dreaded Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi during the 2011 All African Games qualifiers which left them stunned and shocked over the treatment they faced.
Udoh was a member of the Nigeria Olympic team coached by Austin Eguavoen that took on Ghana for a place and crashed out after the tie ended 3-3 on aggregate.
The first leg in Benin City ended 3-1 in favour of Nigeria but the Black Meteors overturned the result and won the tie 2-0 in Kumasi to qualify on the away-goal rule.
Udoh claims the players had a nightmarish time playing against their arch rivals in Kumasi.
The former Heartland FC centre-back said hostile fans made the players pass through hell before, during and after the encounter.
"We were not allowed to enter the dressing room," Udoh recounted to told PUNCH Sports Extra.
"They poured excreta and juju inside our dressing room and we couldn’t go in. We changed outside. They destabilised us, Kumasi fans are very harsh and unfriendly and it’s same city coach Austin Eguavoen is going back to.
"It’s not a place you’ll like to play, the forces there are too much but I believe we have players who can withstand the heat there."
The Nigeria national team will take on the Black Stars at the Babayara Stadium in Kumasi in the 2022 World Cup play-off on Friday, March 25, 2022.
The return leg of the play-off tie will take place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Tuesday, March 26, 2022.
