This is how the title race looks in LaLiga Santander: Clasico win takes Real Madrid top

Published on: 10 April 2021

Real Madrid are the new leaders of LaLiga Santander after moving ahead of Atletico Madrid on head-to-head on Saturday night.

Zinedine Zidane's side's 2-1 win over Barcelona puts them in a strong position going into the final few fixtures of the season.

It's the first time that Los Blancos have been top of the league since Matchday 5, when they beat Levante at the Estadio de la Ceramica.

The result means Barcelona no longer have LaLiga Santander in their hands, as they stay one point off the top after the defeat.

Real Madrid's next stop in LaLiga Santander - after travelling to Anfield in midweek - comes against Getafe next Sunday. Nacho and Casemiro will all be suspended for that one.

Barcelona have to wait a bit longer to return to action in LaLiga Santander, with their Copa del Rey final against Athletic Club taking place next Saturday.

Atletico Madrid can return to the top of LaLiga Santander if they draw or win their game in hand against Real Betis on Sunday.
